INSTALLATION Copy the SRecord drawer wherever you like, for example to SYS:Applications/. Nothing else to install. SCREENSHOTS - Capture area: the screen freezes; click a window or drag a region (with a magnifier). Space: whole screen, Esc: cancel. - Full screen at once, optional delay of 3, 5 or 10 s. - A window is captured complete, even where other windows cover it (Enhanced display engine). - Video overlays (MPlayer with cgx_overlay, SDL) are captured too. - Each screenshot is saved (PNG or JPEG), copied to the clipboard and opened in the editor. PNG with the best filter per row (as libpng). - Save as: PNG, JPEG, TIFF, ILBM and the installed picture datatypes. EDITOR - Arrows (4 styles), rectangles, ellipses, text, numbered steps, blur, crop, resize (4 times larger at most). - Each text has its own font (any outline font), size and colour. - Colour, size and shadow; every object stays editable; undo / redo; zoom. The handles of the object just drawn work with any tool. - The edits are kept: a picture can be edited again later. - Save writes the picture, copies it and closes the editor. - A capture taken by accident is deleted from the editor. - Picture size and file size shown under the picture. VIDEOS - MP4 (H.264), MPEG-2 (.mpg, for older players) or animated GIF of a window, a region, the screen or a zone that follows the mouse (M in the selector; its size in the Video settings). - Format, quality, frames per second and size can be shown under the buttons of the main window, kept at once ("Quick settings in the window" in the Video settings, off by default). - Mouse pointer and clicks, pause, stop after a time or a size. - Built-in GIF player; other videos open in MPlayer. - MP4 and MPEG-2 store a frame only when the screen changed (the time stamps keep the right speed): light, and nothing is lost to catching up. MPlayer before 1.6.1 plays such videos too fast: the "Constant frame rate" option (Video settings) repeats the picture instead. - Reading video memory is the limit (about 30 MB/s on a Mirari): for smooth videos, record a region, scale 50 %, 10-15 fps, and close the SRecord window while recording. The log gives the times per frame. WARNING: recording an MP4 or an MPEG-2 is very demanding. Reading the screen and encoding take most of the CPU: the machine (and the programs being recorded) can become slow while recording, and a full screen at a high frame rate will not keep up (fewer frames per second). On a slower machine, keep to a region or a window, scale 50 %, 10-15 fps, the Ultrafast preset, and no smooth scaling. A GIF is lighter to make but only suits short, small clips. WORKSPACE - Icon toolbars (names in the bubble help); a button opens the captures drawer. - Previews of all captures, newest first, in three sizes, with the picture size and the file size; colours of the MUI theme. - Multiple selection: Ctrl, Shift or a lasso drawn with the mouse. - Drag and drop: pictures in from Ambient; previews out to Ambient drawers (any path, found through Ambient's ARexx port: RexxMast must run) and to windows that take icons (Accord...). - SRecord is in the screen bar while it runs: one click for a menu (captures, record or stop the video, captures drawer, quit), double click opens the window, as do the hotkey and Exchange (Show); the icon can blink while recording (option in the Video settings). Closing the window never quits. - "Start with MorphOS" in the settings puts an icon in SYS:WBStartup (SRecord in the background); unticked, the icon is removed. - Each page of the settings has its own "Reset to defaults" button. SHELL SRecord [keywords] [START] [NOGUI] [SCREENSHOT] The keywords are those of ENVARC:SRecord.prefs; they also work as tooltypes, in SRecord's icon or in a project icon that starts it (for example in WBStartup). A switch is turned off with NO, OFF or FALSE. LANGUAGES English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Polish: the system's (Auto) or the one chosen in the settings. Copy catalogs//SRecord.catalog to LOCALE:Catalogs//. LOG On the Log page of the settings and in PROGDIR:SRecord.log. HISTORY 1.2 (06.11.2026) - MPEG-2 videos (.mpg) for older players, with a small built-in FFmpeg (AltiVec) that only encodes what changed on the screen. - MP4 / MPEG-2: a frame only when the screen changed; "Constant frame rate" option for MPlayer before 1.6.1. Stop answers at once. - Recording around the mouse is back: M in the selector, or its own hotkey (ctrl alt m). - Optional quick video settings in the main window (format, quality, fps, size). - Simpler settings: H.264 and MPEG-2 at a constant quality only (the rate control choices and the bit rate are gone), Ultrafast by default; the priority and "read everything" are only keywords now. - "Captures kept" (General settings, 100 by default): the oldest captures past that number are deleted. - Editor: each text has its own font, size and colour (Text window), the font of the settings is the one of new texts; a picture is enlarged 4 times at most (8192 pixels a side). - Fixes: MPEG-2 quality setting, key frames every N seconds with the variable frame rate, Save from the menu no longer removes the WBStartup icon, corrupt MP4 files, double start, black bands on the screen while recording; a right click in the screen bar shows SRecord's menus, not a capture's; CX_POPUP (a tooltype of the WBStartup icon) is no longer saved with the settings (SRecord then always started without its window). 1.1 (03.11.2026) - Screen bar icon: menu (captures, record / stop, drawer, quit), optional blinking while recording. - Closing the window hides it; Exchange Show and CX_POPUP=NO work; "Start with MorphOS" option. - Icon toolbars, captures drawer button. - Editor: Save closes it, delete the capture, handles usable with any tool, file size shown. - Workspace: picture and file size, MUI theme colours; drop on any Ambient drawer. - MP4 at a constant frame rate (right speed in MPlayer), clean frames when windows move; smaller PNG files. - System About box; "Reset to defaults" on each settings page. - 7 languages. 1.0 (01.11.2026) - First release.
