| Readme: | Short: Amiga emulator for MorphOS Author: papiosaur2 hotmail fr (Papiosaur) Type: misc/emu Version: 0.4 (02.10.2026) Architecture: ppc-morphos Requires: MorphOS 3.20+, sdl2.library (gamepads), your own Kickstart ROM (1.3 for the A500, 3.1 for the A1200) URL: https://papio-software.com
OVERVIEW ========
Lorraine is a new Amiga emulator, developed from scratch for MorphOS and designed to run at full speed on PowerPC: 50 frames per second on a PowerBook G4 and on a Mirari.
It emulates two PAL Amigas:
- Amiga 500: 68000 processor, OCS/ECS chipset (copper, blitter, sprites, interlace), 512 KB or 1 MB of chip memory plus 512 KB of slow memory; - Amiga 1200: 68EC020 processor at 14 MHz with its instruction cache, AGA chipset (256 colours, HAM8, 32 and 64-bit fetch, wide sprites), 2 MB of chip memory and 4 to 32 MB of Fast memory.
Both have Paula sound with the A500 filters, up to four floppy drives, keyboard, mouse and joysticks.
It boots from floppy disk images only (no hard disk yet).
INSTALLATION ============
1. Unpack the archive anywhere. 2. Copy your Kickstart 1.3 ROM file into the Roms drawer (any name). For the A1200, add a Kickstart 3.1 (A1200) ROM as well. The ROMs are NOT included: they are still copyrighted. 3. Double-click Lorraine: the settings panel opens. Choose the model, insert a disk in DF0: and click Start.
USAGE =====
Disk images: ADF, DMS and IPF (SPS/CAPS preservation images, with their copy protections: Rob Northen Copylock, long tracks, weak bits...), also inside ZIP archives. A ZIP holding several disks asks which one to insert (or name it archive.zip#2 for disk 2). ADF disks are writable like real floppies: games and the Workbench save to the ADF file (tick "Write-protect disks" in the panel to keep them untouched). DMS and IPF images are read only.
Model: A500 or A1200, and Fast memory (none, 4 to 32 MB; above 8 MB for the A1200 only), applied at the next Reset.
Drop an .adf file on the emulation window: it is inserted in DF0: and the Amiga restarts on it. Drop it on a drive line of the Lorraine panel to change the disk without restarting (disk 2 of a demo...).
Press F12 to open the Lorraine panel (and get the MorphOS mouse pointer back); click the emulation window to return to the Amiga. Closing the emulation window stops the Amiga and returns to the panel; Quit (or the close gadget of the panel) leaves Lorraine. The panel controls the four drives (connect, insert, eject), fast loading, volume, drive sounds, stereo separation, Kickstart ROM and chip memory (applied at the next Reset), display area, monitor frame, Reset, Pause and full screen. Settings are saved in Lorraine.prefs.
F12 settings panel, releases the mouse Alt+Return window / full screen Controllers chosen per port in the settings panel: mouse (port 1), USB gamepad (automatic or by name), numeric keypad (8 2 4 6, 0 = fire), keyboard (cursor keys, Ctrl or right Alt = fire) or nothing. Gamepads are read through SDL2: d-pad or left stick to move, face and shoulder buttons fire. "Detect" refreshes the list after plugging a gamepad. Mouse captured by the Amiga while its window is active

STATUS ======
Tested on real hardware (Mirari T1042, PowerBook G4): Kickstart 1.3 and 3.1, the demos Arte, State of the Art, Desert Dream (two drives), Enigma, Mental Hangover and 9 Fingers.
Not yet available: hard disk, ADZ images, 68030 and faster processors, save states.
HISTORY =======
0.4 - Amiga 1200: 68EC020 processor, AGA chipset, Kickstart 3.1 - Fast memory from 4 to 32 MB - IPF disk images with their copy protections (Copylock...) and ZIP archives - Changing disks leaves the drive empty for a moment, as a real player does: games now see the new disk - Hardware collisions (sprites and playfields) - Sprites in the border (AGA), sprite colour banks - Faster AGA display (dual playfield, palette) - Only the lines that change are redrawn (less CPU) - Fixed: music played as noise when it lies above 512 KB of chip memory (1 MB chip on the A500, A1200) - Fixed: Aladdin, Bubble and Squeak, Banshee pictures shifted or garbled (bitplane fetch start and stop)
0.3 - The settings panel opens at launch, Start button - Closing the emulation window returns to the panel, Quit button - Controllers per port: mouse, USB gamepads (SDL2), numeric keypad; gamepad names listed, Detect button - Display area "auto": zooms on the area the game really uses, with exact proportions or stretched to fill the window - Chip bus sharing: the 68000 waits for bitplane and blitter DMA like on a real A500 (5-6 bitplane games run at the right speed) - Blitter timing from the hardware manual (blits were twice too slow) - Disks drawer, the Insert requester opens there - Quieter drive motor sound - Fixed: Aaargh! stayed on a black screen (copper jump on read) - Fixed: Toki title picture drawn slanted (data fetch stop) - Fixed: mouse capture (clicks on window gadgets, pointer jumps)
0.2 - Retro monitor frame around the picture (option) - Mouse captured by the emulation window, F12 opens the panel - Drop a disk on a drive line of the panel - The panel shows the disk dropped on the emulation window - Roms drawer and Kickstart ROM selector in the panel - ROM and chip memory changes applied at the next Reset - Message when the emulated Amiga crashes, with a hint - Fixed: stuck sprites drawing vertical lines (9 Fingers)
0.1 - First release
